Trending Treatments

Google Trends is a great way to figure out whether there is general interest in particular treatments and whether that interest is growing or stagnating.

Google Trends is a website by Google that analyses the popularity of top search queries in Google Search across various regions and languages. The website uses graphs to compare the search volume of different queries over time

Before embarking on additional training or purchasing an expensive device, take a look at Google trends to see whether you’ll be riding the crest of a treatment wave!

Here are a few snapshots from Google Trends which show the underlying interest in certain aesthetic treatments.

The Old Faithfuls

Recently, there’s talk of a decline in the demand for fillers, but this isn’t reflected in our booking data or Google Trends.

Here’s a comparison of the search volumes for the terms “Botox” and “lip filler” in the UK for the last 5 years.

Search volumes were steady from 2018 - 2020. There was a significant dip during the pandemic, with a huge peak in volume post-pandemic. There was a return to higher than pre-pandemic volumes when lockdowns lifted. There is a seasonal dip around Christmas with a return to normal levels in the New Year.

Conclusion:

Anti-wrinkle treatment and fillers aren’t going anywhere!

Around 80% of all treatments booked on Glowday are toxin or filler treatments. These will form the basis of the vast majority of your revenue as an aesthetic practitioner.

The Devices

With recent advances in device technology, radio frequency microneedling, HIFU and laser treatments are becoming important tools in an aesthetic practitioners repertoire.

There’s no denying that the PR machines for device-based treatments like Hydrafacial® and Morpheus8 have done a great job in bringing attention to the results these treatments can achieve. Additionally, they are a great treatment for those who “don’t do injectables”!

But what’s search demand like for these treatments?

Well, it’s clear that there has been a steady increase in Google searches for “morpheus 8”, “HIFU” and “hydrafacial” over the last couple of years.

Conclusion:

Devices are an expensive investment and hiring/purchasing one should be a very well thought through decision. If your business is at the point of being able to attract and retain a loyal, valuable patient base, introducing device-based treatments is likely worth considering.

If you’ve not yet honed attracting and retaining patients in a consistent, reliable way, introducing a new device to your clinic is unlikely to be the golden bullet you’d like it to be.

Collagen Induction is IN!

Microneedling, Profhilo and PRP are three treatments experiencing increased search volume, particularly post-pandemic - which microneedling pipping the other two to the post.

The focus on skincare and preventative ageing during the pandemic has apparently created a more educated and sophisticated skinthusiast.

Conclusion:

Adding relatively low initial investment treatments, like microneedling and PRP, to your treatment offering provides a perfect adjunct to the restorative/reparative injectable treatments with relatively low outlay.

The charts show the search volumes in proportion to the terms you’ve added. Check out the chart below to get an idea of the scale of search volumes for Botox vs microneedling vs hydrafacial…further evidence that the toxin is still in high demand!

So whether you’re looking to expand your treatment menu, trying to figure out which services to market or just like to keep in the loop when it comes to treatment trends, Google Trends is your friend!
